Pavilion Cafe and Homestay at Lebuh Presgrave (Sar Tiao Lor), Penang [review]

There are many cafes and homestays / guest houses / hostels / boutique hotels sprouting in Georgetown Penang that I have lost count of them. Last week, I was privileged to visit a pretty new cafe cum homestay opposite Kwong Wah Jit Poh Press along Lebuh Presgrave, or better known by the locals as Sar Tiao Lor (3rd Road).

This is it.

Pavilion Cafe, in a refurbished pre-war house/shoplot.

(Hanyu: San Sui Suen - I think)

The moment I entered the cafe, I noticed the coffee drip.

And, on the walls of the cafe, there are drawings of the Kwong Wah Yit Poh Press....

The interior gave me that 1920s feel.

Now, let's see what have we got in Pavilion Cafe....

Crispy Chicken with Jackfruit (RM10.9)

Hardly seen any savory dish that comes with Jackfruit, thus, this is interesting for me!

Classic Fried Spaghetti with Ham (RM10.9).
Similar like the Aglio-olio, it's spicy with ample chili flakes.

Taiwan Pancake (served with Apple Vinegar) (RM8.9)

It's the savory kind of pancake, with onions and veggie.

Chinese Steam Bun with Fried Char Siu (RM10.9)

The BBQ pork comes separately, thus I spread it into the fresh steamed buns.

Jawa Spice Vegetables (RM10.9) - comes with Four angled bean (or winged bean), eggplant and Long beans with lots of onions.

Kung Poh Century Egg (RM10.9)

Pretty interesting dish - The century Egg was deep fried

Sakura Fried Rice (RM9.9)

And, last but not least, the Yellow Duck!! (RM10.9)

If you have not had the chance to visit the Yellow Duck in Taiwan, it's okay, we have got it at Pavilion Cafe!

Let's continue with the drinks :)

Rose Latte Ice (RM9.9)

Very refreshing tinge of rose in a iced latte!

The coffee isn't that strong; I didn't had insomnia that night!

Classic Fruit Tea Ice (RM8.9)

Another refreshing fruit tea based drink... and I love the passion fruit in it!

Caramel Macchiato Ice (RM9.9)

Sweet (from the caramel syrup) and creamy (from the whipped cream)

Blue Purple Dream Ice (RM8.9)
Its not blue curacao, but it's the blue that comes from the natural coloring of the blue flower; the same blue flower we used to make the blue Nyonya Kuih or Tong Yuen (Glutinous ball).
This drink helps to cleanse, with little slimming effect, and of course, it attracts people who are watching their figures. :) It was served with lemon, so, once the lemon is mixed, the drink would turn from blue to purple. I could taste mainly lemongrass and chrysanthemum tea in it, and a little taste of Tong Yuen (due to the blue flower).

Overall, I find that the menu is very interesting, for both food and drinks. The cafe owner is really creative. However, I would think the price is on the medium range, as for that area, there is just too much competition from the famous hawker stalls.
